Pearl Ann (Brownfield) Scherer

Pearl Ann (Brownfield) Scherer, 87, of Ottawa, passed away Thursday, May 30, 2024 at Lightways Hospice in Joliet with her loving family by her side.

A visitation will be held on Friday, June 7, from 4:00pm until 7:00pm at Ottawa Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, June 8, at 10:30am, at St. Columba Church. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery at a later date.

Pearl was born January 10, 1937, in Ottawa, IL, to Paul and Mary (Corrigan) Brownfield. She married Hubert "Hubie" Scherer on October 27, 1956. He passed away February 11, 2022

Pearl graduated from the Marquette High School and later attended IVCC for nursing. She loved being a nurse. She held multiple nursing jobs but especially liked when she worked in pediatrics at Morris Hospital. In her free time, she enjoyed traveling with her husband, Hubie, where they traveled all over the US and Europe. She especially liked traveling to Ireland, where she was able to see where her family was from. She was a talented baker and always enjoyed making her special treats for her family. She was very active in the girl scouts. She started the girl scout troop in our area and was affiliated with the Centrillio Council.  She was the Jaycee Wives president, she was an ambassador at Heritage woods, where she lived for the last 7 years, was a member of Kimball Thimble Quilt Guild and loved making baby quilts. Above all, she loved her family. Each and every one of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were very close to her and will greatly miss her.

She is survived by her children, Stephen Scherer of Ottawa, David Scherer of Champaign, twins, Cora Scherer of Lisle and Karen (Daniel) Turner of Austin Texas, and Vicki Napier of Mark; her grandchildren, Jonathan (Shannon) Scherer, James Scherer, Kristopher Turner, Bridget Napier, Danielle Turner, Joseph Scherer, Katie Turner, Julie Scherer, Darryl Turner;  her great-grandchildren, Michael, Maddux, and Myles Scherer, and Meghan and Makayla Wiley; as well as her brothers and sister in law, Mary Anne Scherer, Allen (Jeanie) Scherer, and Chuck (Cathy) Scherer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Mary; her husband of 65 years, Hubie; her siblings, Paul Brownfield and Mary Jo (Calvin) Ingram; her mother and father in law, Hubert and Alice Scherer; and her brothers and sisters in law, Don (Alice) Scherer, Barb (Joe) Wheatland, Pat (Terry) Green, and Ric Van Buren.

Memorials may be directed in Pearl's honor to Lightways Hospice in Joliet.
