Patricia Nelson

Patricia (Darm) (Kauzlarich) Nelson, 85, of Thornton, Colorado passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at Elmshaven Center in Thornton following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Funeral service will be 1:30 Friday, August 26, 2016 at Ottawa Funeral Home with Rev. Duane Kaufman officiating. Her visitation will be 12:30- 1:30, one hour prior to services, at Ottawa Funeral Home. She will be buried at Riverview Cemetery in Streator. Patricia was born July 17, 1931, in Streator, Illinois to Walter and Nora (Bach) Darm. She spent her childhood years in Streator and was a graduate of Streator High School. She is survived by her daughter, Pam Bernardini of Erie, Colorado; four grandchildren, Joel Bernardini of Westminster, Colorado, Carly Bernardini of Denver, Colorado, Zach Bernardini of Westminster, Colorado and Tom (Katie) Mettille of Sheridan, Illinois; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Edward Louis Kauzlarich; one daughter, Karen Jean Mettille; two sisters, Leona Dooley and Meta Mattes; and a brother, Walter Darm. Patricia spent her early years as a young wife and mother travelling the country with her military husband before settling in Ottawa to raise her family. After her family was raised she lived in Florida and Arkansas before returning to Ottawa for a time and then making her final move to Colorado in 2008 to spend her remaining years close to her daughter and grandchildren. She loved cooking, gardening, fishing, sewing, and painting. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren. Memorials may be directed to her family.
