Mona "Pat" Markut, 91, of Ottawa, Illinois passed away Thursday, February 26, 2015 at home surrounded by her loving family. Mass will be held Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at 10:00 am at St. Francis of Assisi with Rev. Augustin Kassa officiating. Visitation will be Monday, March 2, 2014 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm with prayers at 3:45 pm at Ottawa Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery. Pat was born July 2, 1923 in Sutton, England to Richard and Elizabeth (Trenham) Smith. She married Frank April 10,1948 at St. Francis Church; he passed away June 1, 2006. Pat was the past president of the Altar and Rosary Society of St. Francis Church for many years, a pink lady at Ryburn King Hospital, she was a sacristan at St. Francis Church, and a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She took great pride in caring for the church. Pat worked at Famous Department store as the window dresser until its closing. She also ran the Better Dress area. She attended many sporting events for her grandchildren. She is survived by three daughters, Trish (Larry) Lindell, Barbara Castelli, and Deborah (Kevin) Lowe; seven grandchildren, Jeff (Cortney) Lindell, Kevin (Amy) Lindell, Kelly (DaveDemo) Lindell, Bobby (Leigh) Castelli, Michael Castelli, Amanda (Brandon Osacky) Bishop, Kelsey (Cory Koelker) Bishop; five great-grandchildren Austin Lindell, Kylie Lindell, Avery Demo, Chiara Castelli, Carsten Castelli; and two sisters, Molly Kovac and Lily Pendergast. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Frank; a sister, Dorothy Bryant; and two brothers, Kenneth Smith and Robert Smith. Memorials may be directed to the family.
