Norman Helmer, 84, of Ottawa, IL, passed away Friday, January 31, 2020 at Ottawa Pavilion.
Military Services will be at 10:30 am Thursday, February 13, 2020 at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, cremation rites have been accorded to the Ottawa Funeral Home and Crematory. A celebration of Norman's life will follow at the Westside Pub.
Norman was born February 17, 1935, in Spring Valley, Il. to Harry and Louise (Tinker) Helmer. He married Mary Lou Granados on December 10, 1971 in Ottawa.
Norman served in the US Army 1955 to 1957, he was a Construction Worker out of Local 911 and jack of all trades, he loved fishing, cooking, tinkering in his garage for hours.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Helmer, one daughter Angel Love (Jim Adams) Helmer, two grandchildren Miranda Aubrey and Ryan Jesse Helmer and his good friend Read Gage.
Norman was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father Ralph Eckard, one sister; two brothers.
