Nick was born October 18, 1933 in Ottawa, Illinois to Nicholas B. and Hazel (Barr) Dougherty. He married Patricia Kelley May 14, 1960 in St. Patrick's Church. He attended St. Patrick's grade school and was a graduate of Marquette High School. He was a key basketball player at Marquette High School. He served in the United States Army in the Infantry and was stationed in Germany. He retired from Libby Owens Ford plant 5 and 7 after 40+ years of service.

Nick loved the outdoors; he especially enjoyed fishing, hunting, and ice fishing. He always looked forward to his annual fishing trips to Lake Vermillion in Cook, Minnesota. He enjoyed the company of all his fishing buddies on the lake while he was at the cabin. He was a St. Louis Cardinals fan, but wanted to see the Cubs win the World Series; he thought they deserved it. Above all, his favorite thing to do was attend his grandkids' sporting events.

He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia; four children, Kathleen Johnson, Steven J. Dougherty, Christopher J. Dougherty, and Jennifer M. (Tony) Morello; eight grandchildren, Andrew, Leo (Nikki), Kelly, and Brett Johnson, Bryan and Lucas Dougherty, and Allison and Joseph Morello; two great grandchildren, Miles and Lucy Johnson; his longtime hunting and fishing buddy, Bill Bruck; and his golden retriever and best coffee buddy, Betty.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Ruth Lakan; and one brother, Daniel Dougherty.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
