Michael G. Vaughn

Michael Gregory Vaughn, 74, of Ottawa passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2022 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford surrounded by his family.

Memorial services will be held at 12 pm on Thursday, February 24 at Ottawa Funeral Home, with Father Mike Driscoll officiating. Visitation will be from 11am to noon, prior to services, at the funeral home. Military honors will follow.

Mike was born August 13, 1947 in Rockford to Richard L. "Pat" and Margaret "Jean" (McClafferty) Vaughn. He was a proud member of the United States Navy, joining in 1966. He was stationed in many places around the world before finishing his career with a rank of CT2 at the Pentagon, with high-level clearance working for the Defense Intelligence Agency. He married Vicki Meado on March 29, 1987 at St. Columba Church; and together they have spent 35 years.

Mike graduated from Stockton High School and received his Bachelor's Degree from Illinois State University, graduating as a CPA. He retired after a successful career as an executive and CFO of various community banks. He spent many years as President of the First National Bank of Ottawa. Mike was an active member of the Ottawa community, serving as a founding member of Jaycees, President of Illinois Bankers Association, Treasurer of the Ottawa Red Cross and United Way, as well as Treasurer of Ottawa City Council, and a member of the Ottawa Community Hospital Board of Directors.

He loved playing golf and competed in numerous tournaments, qualifying in a major statewide Illinois amateur event. Mike was an avid Chicago Bears and Cubs fan, and he also enjoyed fishing, cooking, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Vicki; two sons, Timothy (Molly) Vaughn and Tyler (Joanna) Vaughn; his daughter Karissa Vaughn; five grandchildren, Grey, Claire, Liliana, Abigail, and Theodore; his brother, Mark Vaughn; and his sister, Barbara (Sundly) Vaughn. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pat and Jean.
