Michael P. Hanson, 64, of Ottawa passed away Sunday, December 16, 2018 at University of Chicago Medical Center.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9 am, Friday, December 21 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, with Rev. David Kipfer officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm, Thursday, December 20 at Ottawa Funeral Home. Private burial will be in Troy Grove Cemetery at a later date.
Mike was born December 16, 1954 in La Salle to Philip W. and C. Patricia (Graham) Hanson. He married Michelle Lipka on March 29, 1999 in Okeechobee, Florida.
Mike graduated from Mendota High School and IVCC. He started his career as a firefighter with Mendota Troy Grove Fire Department and retired from Ottawa Fire Department after more than twenty years, with the rank of Lieutenant. He was a self-employed, do-it-yourself contractor, who was always happy to be working on something. He enjoyed fishing in Okeechobee, Florida with his family, and hunting. Mike and his family were always on an adventure, traveling to national parks in their RV. He always relished a good bargain, whether it be a garage sale, flea market, or Menard's rebate.
He is survived by his wife, Michelle; his children, Patricia, Matthew, and Camden; his siblings, Art (Lynda) Hanson, James (Candy) Hanson, Judith (Pamela Wayne) Hanson, Paul (Lori) Hanson, Janet (Michael) Widolff, and Joseph (Kristi Adair) Hanson; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his niece, Patti Lyn.
Pallbearers will be Michael Hanson, John Hanson, Eric Hanson, Greg Newton, Andrew Widolff, Daniel Widolff, and Patrick Richard.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to his family.
