Michael S. Farrell

Michael S. Farrell, 65, of Ottawa, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2024 at OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 8, from 2:00pm until 5:00pm at Ottawa Funeral Home. A funeral ceremony will follow at 5:00pm. Cremation rites have been entrusted to Ottawa Funeral Home.

Michael was born March 29, 1959, in Lasalle, IL, to Robert Joseph and Mary Catheryn (Ewing) Farrell. He married Athena Vavaroutsos on May 22, 1983 at All Saints Greek Orthodox Church in Joliet.

He worked at Wedron Silica for 45 years and recently retired in January of 2023. He enjoyed getting together with the other Silica retirees and drinking coffee at their regular get together's. In his free time, he loved the outdoors. He enjoyed gardening; fishing, especially at the pits at Wedron Silica; boating; and listening to country music. He was an extremely talented artist and drew and painted many beautiful pieces. He enjoyed cooking for his family and going golfing. More than anything, he loved his grandchildren. He never missed an opportunity to go to their games or events and was constantly spoiling them. He was a member of Shoreline Boat Club.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Athena Farrell; his three sons, Ryan Farrell, Kevin Farrell, and Kyle (Kaitlyn) Farrell; his grandchildren, Payson and Hadley Farrell; and his sisters, Michelle (Harry) Deacon and Sue Anne (Billy) Robertson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mary Farrell and his brother, Shawn Farrell.
