S. Maxine Pfau, 87, of Ottawa, formerly of Hinckley, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Heritage Health in Mendota. Memorial Mass will be held at 11:30am, Friday, March 3, 2017 at St. Columba Church, with Rev. David Kipfer officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00am, prior to the services, at Ottawa Funeral Home, with the Rosary at 10:30am. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery. Maxine was born April 21, 1929 in Streator to John and Sabina (Butchko) Balke. She married Charles H. Pfau on August 7, 1948; he passed away in October 2007. Maxine was a homemaker, catechism instructor for St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Sandwich, Squaw Grove Township Clerk, and she also worked at the Hinckley Post Office. She was a member of St. Columba Church and Hinckley Homemakers. Maxine loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchild. She is survived by six children, Charles H. Pfau Jr. of North Aurora, IL; Barbara (Bill) Johnson of Marietta, GA; Alice (Bill) Pfau-Pakenham of Earlville, IL; Donald Pfau of Olympia Fields, IL; Edward (Teri) Pfau of Bement, IL; and William (Patty) Pfau of Leland, IL; six grandchildren, Wade Johnson, Brynne (Matt) Gowens, Matthew and Christine Pfau, and Brian and Austin Pfau; and one great-grandchild, Tucker Gowens. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, six sisters, Wilma Majernik, Burdette Lewis, Rose Sepesy, Esther Thanasse, Rita Adamchak and Dolaraine Balke, in infancy; and one brother, John "Jack" Balke. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association.
