Matthew "Michael" Simmons

Michael Simmons, 67, passed away Thursday, January 22, 2015 at his home after a long battle with cancer. A celebration of life will be held 6:00 pm Monday, January 26, 2015 at Ottawa Funeral Home. Visitation will be 4:00 to 6:00 Monday prior to services at Ottawa Funeral Home. Cremation rites have been accorded. Michael was born August 31, 1947 in Lansing, Michigan to Clark and Florence (O'Kelly) Simmons. He worked at Home Hardware in Ottawa for 12 years. Michael had the kindest and biggest heart and cared deeply for helping people. He never met a person he didn't like. After meeting him people always walked away with a smile on their face. He never wanted anyone to worry about him but always worried about others. His passion was taking care of the farm, mowing the lawn, being outdoors, gardening, taking pictures, and golfing. He is survived by his fiancée, Sharon Fordon; his step-daughter, Drusilla (Andrew) Wacker of CO; one grandchild, Zeki Wacker; one sister, Judy (Jim) Woods; one brother, John (Maria) Simmons; his nieces and nephews, Becky (Dave) Levine, Liz (Jon) Ezzo, and Steve (Monica) Woods; and seven great nieces and nephews, Elena, Jon Carmen, Danny, Zoe, Ava, Lily, and, Jonah. He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Danny Simmons; and his brother in law, Jim Woods.
