Matthew D. Grammer

Matthew "Popeye" Grammer, 48, of Naplate, passed away Friday March 12, 2010 at his home surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous six year battle with Multiple Myloma. Funeral services will be 7:00 PM Tuesday March, 16 at Ottawa Funeral Home with Rev. David Kipfer officiating. Visitation will be 3-7 PM. Cremation rites will be accorded. Matt was born July 30, 1961 to Dale and Margaret (Panko) Grammer. He attended Ottawa District schools and worked as a Boilermaker out of Local #1. He married Denise Hillyer of Ottawa, on February 23, 1998. Matt loved fishing, playing poker, spending time with family, and was a die hard Cubs and Bears fan. Matt was also a loving son, brother, father, and friend. He was kind to all and will be greatly missed by all. Matt is survived by Denise of Streator; two sons, Luke and Logan of Streator; his mother, Marge of Naplate; one brother, Mark of Ottawa; six sisters, Gail Thompson, Sarah (Eric) Cook of Marseilles, Cindy Harden of Ottawa, Erica Grammer of Ottawa, Peggy Freeman and Gretta Erickson of Washington State; sixteen nieces and nephews; and twelve great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father; his maternal grandparents, Mary and Anton Panko; and his paternal grandparents, Virginia and Columbus Grammer. Memorials may be directed to the family.
