Mary Smith

Mary L. Smith, 77, of Ottawa passed away Thursday, October 28, 2010 at her home. Funeral Services will be 1:00 pm Saturday, October 30, 2010 at Ottawa Funeral Home with Rev. Carol Alice Edman officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Saturday at Ottawa Funeral Home. Burial will be at Oakwood. Mary was born February 12, 1933 in Dowell, Illinois to Edgar Carl and Frieda Fay (Wright) Goetz. She married Doyle Kenneth Smith January 6, 1961 in LaSalle, Illinois. She worked at Owens Glass Company and Union Carbide. She and her husband owned and operated the Twin Oaks Antique Shop. She is a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ. Mary most reveled in her role in life as a wife and as a mother. She is survived by her husband, Doyle; two daughters, Dr. Jeanne Marie Decker, and Bonnie Margaret (David) Hayes; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one brother, Robert (Julie) Goetz of Ironwood, MI; and two sisters, Carolyn (Larry) LeGrande of Dodgeville, WI., and Bonnie (Michael) Ohlendorf of Ottawa. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Edgar Goetz Jr., Ralph and Jack Goetz; two sisters, Wilma Thompson, and Margaret Lyle; and a step-son, Doyle Kenneth Smith Jr. Memorials may be directed to the family.
