Mary "Mimi" Hickey Ferguson, 64, of Ottawa passed away Saturday, September 8, 2018 at her home with her children and grandchildren by her side.
Per Mimi's request, there will be no services. Ottawa Funeral Home & Crematory has been entrusted with cremation rites.
Mimi was born August 2, 1954 in Ottawa to George Thomas "Gaffer" and Kathleen "Kate" (Halterman) Hickey, Sr. They lived in Wallace Township at that time. She married the love of her life, Jack Ferguson, Sr. on June 7, 1972 in Ottawa.
Mimi is survived by her children, Susan (Jim Fessler) Ferguson and Jack (Jamie) Ferguson, Jr., both of Ottawa; two granddaughters, Chelsy Almeda and Autumn Ferguson, both of Ottawa; her pets, Bella, Smuggie, and Bridget; brothers, Fred (Kathy) Hickey of Serena and Jim Hickey of Ottawa; her cousin and best friend, Hap Halliday; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brother, George "Tom" Hickey, Jr.; sister, Ruth Ann (Abe) Abendschein; nephew, Ronald "Buddy" Hoyt, Jr., and many fur babies.
Mimi was a member of the Porch Sitters Union of America Local IN-816. She was proud of her Irish heritage. She liked gardening and enjoyed watching Days of Our Lives. Most of all, she loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She liked cooking food for them even though it was enough for an army. You always knew were you stood with Mimi- she was straight-forward and honest about everything in her life.
She was diagnosed with Stage 4 esophageal cancer in March and accepted her diagnosis with dignity and grace until the end. She was at peace with going to heaven to reunite with her husband after five long years, along with her parents, two siblings, and nephew.
Mimi was grateful to receive a visit from Pink Heals Sauk Valley Chapter after her diagnosis.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
