Martin R. Wheatland, 81, of Ottawa passed away Monday, October 9, 2017 at Ottawa Pavilion. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am, Thursday, October 12 at St. Patrick's Church. Visitation will be 4-7 pm, Wednesday, October 11 at Ottawa Funeral Home, with prayers at 3:45. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery. Martin was born March 14, 1936 in Ottawa, Illinois to Roy and Mary (O'Donnell) Wheatland. He graduated from Marquette High School in 1954 and was a member of the United States Army from 1956-1958. Martin was a farmer for his whole life and was a member of St. Patrick's Church and the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by one sister, Margaret "Peg" (Tom) Walsh of Ottawa; one brother, Thomas (Mary Jane) Wheatland of Utica; nieces and nephews, Greg, Kathleen, Tim (Mabel), and Pat (Tonya) Walsh, Joan Wheatland, Diane (Steve) Durdan, and Marty (Julie), Rich (Shelly), and Mike Wheatland; and one sister-in-law, Barb Wheatland. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Joe Wheatland; and one niece, Donna Wheatland. Pallbearers will be Marty and Casey Wheatland, John Whalen, Steve Durdan, and Joe and Kevin Hughes. Memorials may be directed to St. Patrick's Church or Utica Fire Department.
