Martin S. Hanley Jr., 85, of Ottawa, passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at Pleasant View. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am, Monday, November 28 at St. Columba Church with Rev. David Kipfer officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00-6:00 pm, Sunday, November 27 at Ottawa Funeral Home, with the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree in attendance. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery, with full military honors. Marty was born June 13, 1931 in Ottawa to Martin S. Hanley Sr. and Catherine Conrad. He married Patricia Creedon on November 20, 1956 in St. Columba Church. Marty was a graduate of Ottawa High School and joined the United States Army, where he was stationed in Europe from January 23, 1952-January 11, 1954 during the Korean Conflict. He worked for Nicor, and retired at age 58, after 38 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree and the American Legion Post 33. Marty loved to golf and got two holes-in-one at Senica's Oak Ridge Golf Course, and he bowled a 300 game during tournament play at Carretto's. He is survived by his wife; five children, Martin (Anne) Hanley of Wheaton, David (Gina) Hanley of Waynesboro, GA; Jody (Ed) Devoid of Cincinnati, OH; Tom (Leanne) Hanley of Ottawa, and Mike (Rose Ann) Hanley of Ottawa; 11 grandchildren; and two sisters, Carolyn Winslow and Mary Ellen Bretag of NC. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Conrad Hanley. Pallbearers will be his family. Memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor's choice.
