Marie E. Ruhland

Marie E. Ruhland, 100, of Ottawa passed away Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Pleasant View Luther Home, surrounded by her family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at held at 12:00 noon, Saturday, February 9, 2019 at St. Columba Church with Rev. David Kipfer officiating.Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm, Friday and 9 to 11:30, Saturday, prior to the services, at Ottawa Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery.

Marie was born June 19, 1918, in West Brooklyn, Illinois to Albert and Edith (Jeanguenat) Bieschke. She married Norbert J. Ruhland October 19, 1939 at St. Mary's Church in West, Brooklyn; he passed away February 3, 1980.

Marie and her husband were the owners of Ottawa Milk Products, now known as the Cheese Shop. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and Legion of Mary. She was a minister of the Sick at the Ottawa Pavilion, a Eucharistic Minister, and a faithful envelope counter. Marie was very involved with St. Columba Church, serving as President of the Altar and Rosary Society and serving in the Parents Club of St. Columba School and Marquette High School.

She is survived by eight children, Norma Jean (late James) Messaglia of Tinley Park, Robert (Joyce) Ruhland of Ottawa, Alan (Patricia) Ruhland of Ottawa, Marty (Sally) Ruhland of Grand Ridge, Gary (Nancy) Ruhland of Williamsburg VA, Anne (Gene) Borsattino of Fairview TX, Thomas (Sharon) Ruhland of Chillicothe, and Terry (Jeanie) Ruhland of Chillicothe; 21 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and one on the way in July; and her extended family at Pleasant View.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 40 years, Norbert; a granddaughter, Allison Ruhland; a son-in-law, Jim Messaglia; and her siblings, Lea Schmitt, Roger Bieschke, Charlotte Varney, and Lois Doherty.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Columba Building Fund, Marquette Academy, or Pleasant View.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Pleasant View, for their exceptional care.
