Marge Grammer

Our family is broken hearted over the loss of our loved one Marge Grammer, 79, of Ottawa who passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, May 6, 2015. Her funeral will be 6:00 Monday, May 11, 2015 at Ottawa Funeral Home with Rev. David Kipfer officiating. Visitation will be 3:00 to 6:00 Monday prior to her funeral at Ottawa Funeral Home. Cremation rites will be accorded after services are concluded. Marge was born October 13, 1935 in Ottawa, Illinois to Anton "Tony" and Mary (Zuk)Panko both of Ottawa. She attended high school at St. Xavier Academy. She spent many years working as a cook and waitress but she retired as a truck driver. Marge was a wonderful cook and baker making the best pies (especially lemon meringue) and her famous German potato salad. Marge was a die hard Cubs fan who never missed a game. Her favorite past times were playing cards, lottery tickets, jigsaw puzzles, anything having to do with butterflies, and spending time with her friends and family. Marge was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her children, Gail Thompson, Mark (Kim) Grammer, Cindy Harden, Erica (Carl Mickelson) Grammer all of Ottawa, Sarah (Eric) Cook of Marseilles, Gretta Erickson and Peggy Freeman of Washington State; daughter-in-law, Denise Grammer; her sister, Julie Katrein; one nephew, Mike Katrein; eighteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; her 4 legged friend, Sweetie; and numerous cousins. Marge is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Anthony Panko; her son-in-law, Dennis Harden; and her beloved son, Matthew "Popeye" Grammer. Marge will be truly missed by many but leaves behind treasured memories to those who knew and loved her. Memorials may be directed to her family.
