Margarito "Pops" Delagarza

Margarito S. "Pops" Delagarza, 95, of Ottawa passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at LaSalle County Nursing Home. Memorial Mass will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, November 18 at St. Columba Church, with Rev. David Kipfer officiating. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery. Pops was born February 23, 1921 in Hondo, Texas to Nicholas and Rosa (Sandobal) Delagarza. He married Virginia Sanchez on April 17, 1954 in Ottawa; she passed away December 16, 2006. Pops worked as a switchman for the Burlington Northern Railroad. He liked fishing, hunting, and going for walks in the state parks, especially at Starved Rock. He enjoyed attending and hosting family gatherings, picnics, and spending time with his family. He was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church. He is survived by six children, Nelda Rorem, Rudy (Gina) Reyes, George (Debbie) Delagarza, Linda Wachs, Michael (Maggie) Delagarza, and Jeff Delagarza; 13 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and one sister, Maria Garza. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one brother, Eulalio; and one sister, Frances Rubio. Memorials may be directed to the activity fund at the LaSalle County Nursing Home.
