Margaret "Susie" E. Hoyt, 74, of Marseilles, IL, passed away Thursday, January 2, 2020 at Morris Hospital after a brief illness.
A Funeral service will be at 2:00 pm Wednesday, January 8, at Christ Episcopal Church (113 E Lafayette Street Ottawa, IL), with Fr. Michael Dwyer officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 - 2:00 pm prior to the service at the church. Cremation rights have been accorded to the Ottawa Funeral Home.
Susie was born June 14, 1945, in Albany, NY, to Paul D. Towner, Jr. and Elizabeth Holcroft Towner . She married Daryl F. Hoyt on November 21, 1970 in Ballston Lake, NY.
She worked as a teacher for many years. Upon graduation from Geneseo State University in New York, she taught high school English (spring semester of 1968), and sixth grade Math and Science (1968-1970) at Shenendehowa Central School (Orenda Elementary Building). Many years later, recognizing the special needs of educationally challenged children, Susie went back to school and earned her certification in special education. For many years she taught disabled children at Easter Seals in Ottawa, Illinois.
Susie is survived by her husband, Daryl F. Hoyt; her children Daryl (Dawn) J Hoyt and Trevor (Portia) Hoyt both of Aurora; her grandchildren, Daryl M Hoyt, Jeffrey Hoyt, Tricia Hoyt and Tracie Hoyt; her siblings, Paul (Minh) Towner III, Harry (Linda) Towner, and Richard (Donna) Towner; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
As Susie was exceptionally active in many advocacy programs for both disadvantaged and abused children as well as the educational needs of those requiring special needs, in lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to an educational or child advocacy charity of your choosing.
