Leonard Norton

Leonard Norton, 85 of Ottawa, IL., died Sunday May 24, 2009 at Pleasant View. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM Friday May 29, 2009 at St. Columba Church with the Rev. David Kipfer officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm with prayers at 4:00 PM, Thursday May 28, 2009 at the Ottawa Funeral Home with the Knights of Columbus in attendance. Burial will be at St. Theresa Cemetery in Earlville with military services. Mr. Norton was born August 15, 1923 to George and Julia (Leonard) Norton in Earlville, IL. He married H. Rita Hughes on June 14, 1952 at St. Theresa Church in Earlville. Leonard served in the Air Force during WWII from 1942-1945. He retired from the Illinois Dept. of Employment Security; but also had worked for the CB & QR Railroad and LOF Glass Co. He was a member of St. Columba Church, Knights of Columbus, VFW, American Legion and the Ottawa Moose Lodge. He is survived by his wife Rita, one son, Mark (Nora Munagian) Norton of Avondale Estates, GA and one Daughter Patricia (Rick) Braida of Naperville; five grandchildren, Rebecca, Maggie, and Ellie Braida, John and Julia Norton; two Brothers, Don (Karen) Norton and Jim (Elaine) Norton both of Earlville; three sisters, Mary Lou Cahill of DeKalb, Julie (Joe) Burke of Ohio and Barbara (Jerry) Wishall of South Carolina. He was preceded in death by four brothers, three sisters and a daughter in infancy. Pallbearers will be his nephews. Memorials may be directed to St. Columba Church, Marquette High School or Donors Choice.
