Leona A Gaul

Leona Arvesta (Mason) Gaul, 97, of Ottawa, died Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at LaSalle County Nursing Home. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, 2014, at Ottawa Funeral Home with the Rev. Linda Deming officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 2:00 pm, prior to services, at Ottawa Funeral Home. Burial will be in Ottawa Avenue Cemetery. Mrs. Gaul was born January 22, 1917, in Wedron, Illinois, to Arleigh and Elizabeth (Fahy) Mason. She married Elmer P. Gaul on July 14, 1939, in Dubuque, Iowa. He passed away July 23, 2001. She was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church and served on many local church boards and district offices of the Northern Illinois Conference of Methodist Women. She was a Gray Lady at the local hospital. Leona was a graduate of the 1935 class of OHS and was one of the first 6 women to work on the production line at LOF. She is survived by two sons, Stan (Ruth) Gaul of Ottawa and Terry Gaul of Springfield; three grandchildren, Eileen (Scott) Lesak of Oswego, David (Leigh Ann) Gaul of Wheaton, and Sherry Gaul; two sisters, Rita (Daniel) Wood of Ottawa and Sharon (Robert) Friestad of Lisbon; a sister-in-law, Opal (Richard) Gaul of Warrenville; five great-grandchildren, Mason, Dean, and Sadie Lesak, and Carter and Faith Gaul She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, George Mason; one sister, Doris Besse; two brothers-in-law, Daniel Wood, William Besse, and Richard Gaul; and sister-in-law, Mary (Mason) Yerbich. Pallbearers will be David and Rich Gaul, Scott Lesak, Kirk, Dana, and Scott Friestad, Kim Besse and Rick Mason. Memorials may be directed to Evangelical United Methodist Church or the LaSalle County Nursing Home.
