Leo F. Harmon

Leo F. Harmon, 82, of Ottawa passed away Saturday December 15 after suffering a stroke on November 8.

Visitation will be from 11:30-1:30 Saturday, December 22, at Ottawa Funeral Home and a Mass at 2:00 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Church in Ottawa with Father Corey Krengiel officiating and Deacon Ron Wackerlin assisting. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery immediately following the Mass.

Leo was born February 19, 1936, in Ottawa, to Joseph and Regina (O’Donnell) Harmon. He married Janet Knottek on July 25, 1959.

Leo graduated from Marquette High School in 1954 and was a member of the United States Army from 1956-1958. He was a farmer in Wallace Township for his entire life and was a lifetime member of the Local 150 Operating Engineers from which he retired in November of 1998. He was also a member of St. Patrick’s Church, Knights of Columbus (lifetime), American Legion, Elks, Farm Bureau, American Quarter Horse Association, Illinois Quarter Horse Association and the Illinois Valley Horse Association (IVHA).

Leo is survived by his daughter, MaryJo (Mike) Vetter; three grandchildren, Danielle, Nicole and Andrew (“AJ”) Vetter.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and one brother John (Jack) Harmon.

Pallbearers will be AJ Vetter, Joe Harmon, Steve Harmon, Mark Harmon, Marty Wheatland and Sean O’Donnell.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ron O’Donnell, Jake Killelea, Bob Walsh, Gary Setchell and Jerry Wold.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Ottawa American Legion, the Ottawa Knights of Columbus, or the IVHA.
