Leo F. Doherty, 87 of Utica, IL passed away Wednesday December 17, 2008 at Ottawa Regional Hospital and Healthcare Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday December 20, 2008 at St. Patrick's Church with Rev. Philip Halface officiating. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mike and Tom Sipula, Daniel Grenter, Eric Olendorf, Matt Mitchell, Jim Patarozzi and Brian, Kevin and Matt Doherty. Visitation will be Friday December 19, 2008 from 4 to 7 P.M. at the Ottawa Funeral Home. He was born March 23, 1921 at Ottawa, IL to Thomas B. and Kate M. (Burke) Doherty. He married Edna Parkins on January 19, 1944 at St. Columba Church. She preceded him in death. He farmed all his life, worked at Bells Clothing Store for over 50 years and was a dealer for Funks G. seed corn. He graduated from St. Patrick's Grade School and Ottawa Township High School. He was a member of St. Patrick's Church, Knights of Columbus, LaSalle Co. Farm Bureau and the Elks. He is survived by three daughters: Margaret (Dale) Stockley of Earlville, Kate (Roger) Donahue of Earlville and Jane (Gary) Grenter of Pleasanton, CA., a daughter-in-law: Barbara Doherty of Utica, fourteen grandchildren: Beth, Michael and Thomas Sipula, Brian, Kevin and Matthew Doherty, Susan Morgensen, Sarah Thompson, Emily Mitchell, Amanda Acevedo, Megan, Patrick, Daniel and Kathryn Grenter and five great grandchildren: Megan, Abby,and Lily Thompson, Lucy Sipula, and Kyra Mitchell. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Edna one son: James Doherty, and four brothers, Edward, Paul, William and Thomas. Memorials may be made to St. Patrick's School.
