Laura Engel

Laura Noel Engel, 84, of Ottawa, IL, died Friday September 2, 2011 at her home. Funeral Service will be 1:00 PM on Wednesday September 7, 2011 at Ottawa Funeral Home with the Rev. Duane Kaufman officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Ottawa Funeral Home. Burial will be in Ottawa Avenue Cemetery. Laura was born, August 26, 1927, in Tullynacross, Northern Ireland, to Thomas and Sarah May (Dodds) Smith. She married Charles "Tom" Engel on April 29, 1950 at St. Patrick Church in Ottawa; he died July 29, 1999. She retired from Value City after 20 years of service. She is survived by four daughters, Susan (Russell) Van Doren of Littleton, Co., Katie (James) Buckingham of Marseilles, Laura (Randy) Capitani, and Delie Mautino both of Ottawa; one daughter-in-law, Diana Engel of Ottawa; eleven grandchildren, Ian Van Doren, Brittney Ahrendsen, Eric Engel, Jacob Engel, Rachel Crowder, Lacey Klag, Sarah Capitani, Matthew Engel, Samantha Buckingham, James Buckingham, and Ethan Mautino; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Eric "Rick" Engel; one brother, Isaac Dodds, and a granddaughter in law Emily Engel. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren. Memorials may be directed to the family.
