Larry O'Brien

Larry O'Brien, 81, of Ottawa passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at OSF St. Elizabeth Hospital.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30am on Friday, May 18 at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Ottawa with Rev. David Kipfer officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:00 am, prior to services, on Friday at the Ottawa Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery.

Larry was born March 7, 1937 in Ottawa, Illinois to Larry and Bess (Hollenbeck) O'Brien. He married Patricia Mertel on June 8, 1957 at St. Patrick's Church in Ottawa.

Larry was a graduate of Marquette High School, class of 1955. He was a retired Lieutenant from Ottawa Fire Department and retired as Superintendent from Millennium Chemical in Morris. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church, Disabled and Retired Firefighters of Illinois, the retired firefighters of Ottawa, Knights of Columbus, Loyal Order of the Moose, and the Hall of Fame at Marquette High School.

He is survived by his wife Patricia; two sons, Mike (Kari) O'Brien of Ottawa and Terry (Chris) O'Brien of Channahon; two daughters, Laurie (Jack) McDermott of Mokena and Kelly (Scott) Soltis of Medina, OH; ten grandchildren, Shea (Heather), Kierstin, Logan, and Shane O'Brien, Darragh, Callan, Sloane, and Fiona McDermott, and Kaitlin and Kyle Soltis; and his sister-in-law, Peg (Martin) Van Buren.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
