Lawrence J. Monheim, 96, of Ottawa passed away Saturday, August 17, 2019 at Ottawa Pavilion.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am, Friday, September 6 at St. Columba Church, with Rev. David Kipfer officiating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 am, prior to services, at the church. He will be buried in St. Columba Cemetery. Ottawa Funeral Home & Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements.
Larry was born April 25, 1923 in Marseilles to Walter and Caroline (Halfpenny) Monheim. He married Ruth E. Richard on February 18, 1950, at St. Columba Church; she passed away June 8, 2013.
Larry graduated from St. Columba Elementary, Ottawa High School, and Coyne Electrical School in Chicago. He also attended IVCC. He worked 17 years for McDonald Merchandising as a maintenance foreman. Then, 10 years for Union Carbide as a systems mechanic and electrician. When the company was sold to American Hoechst Corporation, Larry worked 8 years for them retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Loyal Order of the Moose, and AARP. Larry was an avid Chicago Cubs Fan.
Larry enjoyed wood working and was often called on to do maintenance on anything electric. He was a loving, caring, and generous man to all who knew him.
He is survived by daughters, Marcia (Michael) Dowding of Blue Springs, MO and Marie Monheim of Ottawa; sons, Walter (Late Sherle) Monheim of Statesville, NC and Larry Monheim of Palm Springs, CA; four grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; his parents; brothers, Bill and Art Monheim; sisters, Ursula Monheim and Alice (Ed) Madden.
Pallbearers will be Kandey Stroud, Kaela Booth, Mackenzie Booth, Richard Monheim, Brian Dowding, Brian Booth.
Memorials may be directed to family.
