Rev. Kurt Simon

The Rev. Kurt W. Simon, 81, of Ottawa, Illinois, passed away Sunday, July 20, 2014 at LaSalle County Nursing Home. Visitation will be Saturday, July 26, 2014 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Ottawa Funeral Home. Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm Sunday, July 27, 2014 at First Congregational United Church of Christ with Rev. Kim Wood officiating. Kurt was born August 2, 1932 in Saint Louis, Missouri to Kurt and Hildegard (Zimplemann) Simon. He married Janet St. Clair on August 21, 1954 in First Congregational Church in Villa Park. He served the lord as Pastor for 28 years at English Congregational United Church of Christ in Big Rock, Illinois. He was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, Graduated from Elmhurst College, and Ordained in 1957 at Eden Seminary in Mo., Administrator at Hoyleton IL Children's Home, Big Rock Fire Dept. Chaplain, and Member of the Lions Club for many years, and President of the Pads board of Directors. He loved spending time with his family, working on his computer, boating, flying kites, gardening, repairing clocks, riding his motorcycle and scooter, building and repairing everything. He loved everyone he met and loved talking. He was a loving Husband, Father, Grandpa, Brother and Uncle. He will be greatly missed by all. He is survived by his wife, Janet Simon; two daughters, Patty (Bill) Pfau of Leland and Pamela Simon of Ottawa; two grandchildren, Brian and Austin Pfau of Leland; one brother, Karl (Shirley) Simon of SC; one sister, Evelyn Tullos of St. Louis; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents. Memorials may be directed to First Congregational United Church of Christ.
