Kayla A. Alderman, 68, passed away Sunday, September 11, 2022, at her home in Decatur, Illinois.

She was born on December 3, 1953, to Kenneth (Knute) and Kay Milus. She attended Marseilles High School, later she attended the College of DuPage and Governor’s State University where she earned her bachelor's and master's degrees.

On August 15, 1975, Kayla married Charles Alderman from Ottawa. They had a baby, Charles Kenneth, on December 7, 1976. Baby Charlie passed away on January 26, 1977.

She started her counseling career at Sheridan Correctional Center and next at the Women’s Correctional Center in Kankakee. Kayla returned to Ottawa and worked at many agencies in the area. She worked at North Central until she retired in 2019.

Above all else, Kayla loved her family. The passing of her mother in October 2021 was very difficult for her. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her father; her sisters, Krista and Kara; her baby, Charlie; her favorite niece, Mary McDermott Goble; and her brother-in-law, Stephen McDermott.

She is survived by her sister, Kelly McDermott of Mahomet; brother in law, Tim Bault; her niece Kelly (Beth) Bault; nephew's, Lee (Jennifer) Sharp, Dan Bault and Brett (Kara) Bault; her great-nephews, Brett and Brian Sharp of Decatur and Dylan and Dakota Goble of Mahomet.

A funeral ceremony will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at 4:00 pm at Ottawa Funeral Home, with Rev. Sherry Stevenson officiating. A visitation will be held from 3:00 until 4:00 pm prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.
