Kay Lynn Mathes Kozel, 70, of Ottawa passed away Sunday, August 28, 2016 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 4, 2016 at Ottawa Funeral Home & Crematory, with Pastor TerryAnn Dumyahn officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 2:00, prior to the services, Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date.
Kay was born June 8, 1946 in Ottawa to Ralph J. and Norma J. (Phillips) Mathes. She married Gary Lancaster August 20, 2016.
She was a member of the Marseilles Methodist Church. She graduated from Ottawa Township High School in 1964 and attended Western Illinois University. Kay worked and retired as a shipping clerk from Libby Owens Ford in 1996. She also worked at Bergner's for 10 years and was a Mary Kay beauty consultant for 25 years.
She enjoyed all the activities of her nieces and nephews. She loved her dance group "Gotta Dance," her birthday club, and support group. She loved to travel to her condo in Minocqua, Wisconsin, and to the beach in Florida.
Kay is survived by her mother; her husband, Gary; two sisters, Marilyn (James) Steenhoek and Carol DeMoss, both of Ottawa; one brother, Ralph J. (Chris) Mathes Jr. of Ottawa; and long time friend, Barbara Strong; several nieces and nephews whom she loved like her own, Jason (Nikki) Jensen, Rebecca (Chris) Snook, Jeff (Karla) DeMoss, Todd (Kimble) DeMoss, Chuck DeMoss, Julie Cooper, Dustin Mathes, Kyle (Katie) Mathes, Kraig Mathes, Sean (Anna) Leheney, and Shelby Leheney; and several great nieces and nephews.
Kay was preceded in death by her father; and brothers-in-law, Douglas Jensen and Charles DeMoss.
