Julie A. Hockenberry, 60, of Ottawa passed away Sunday, May 8, 2016 at Kindred Hospital in Peoria, after a long battle with ALS.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 13, 2016 at Ottawa Funeral Home & Crematory, with Rev. Duane Kaufman officiating. Visitation will be held from noon to 2:00 p.m., prior to the services, Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Oakwood Memorial Park.
Julie was born November 2, 1955 in Ottawa to Art and Betty (Leonard) Hockenberry. She was a custodian at the LaSalle County Nursing home, where she loved working since 1982. She loved flowers and working outside in her yard. She enjoyed going for walks, riding her bike, and going out to eat with her family and friends. She loved to travel and gamble in Las Vegas. She enjoyed listening to music and was especially a fan of classic rock; she loved Cyndi Lauper's song "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun." Julie was a strong, determined woman with the most beautiful smile who simply loved helping people.
She is survived by one daughter, Angie (Ed) Bailey; two grandchildren, Brody Johnson and Courtney Bailey; five siblings, Jimmy Hockenberry, Deborah (Michael) Hecht, Susan (Glenn) Thompson, Pamela Hockenberry, and Lance (Cindy) Hockenberry; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Craig Hockenberry; two grandchildren, Amber Hickey and Raymond Stahl III; her nephew, Brian Thompson; and her great-nephew, Tyler Thompson.
Pallbearers will be Ed Bailey, Donnie Thompson, Michael Thompson, Mark Thompson, Casey Kelly, and Nate Henry.
Memorial donations may be directed to the family.
