New Lenox

Julianne Susan (Matan) Schoeling, 51, of New Lenox passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 27, 2024, surrounded by her loving family at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, August 17 from 12:00pm until 2:00pm at the Public Landing, 200 W 8th St., Lockport, IL 60441 (inside the Gaylord Building).

Julie was born May 8, 1973 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Joliet to her parents, William "Bill" and Karen (Novak) Matan. She attended Coal City High School and graduated with the class of 1991. She most recently worked for Allied Landscaping in Joliet. She enjoyed working with plants and listening to 80's hair bands, hip hop and reggae.

Julie, affectionately known as Juju, loved unconditionally and was a supportive mother and friend. She had a spice for life that was truly unique. Those who truly knew her, knew what a special & glowing soul she was. Through good and bad, she had a heart of gold and could always be relied upon for her non-judgmental perspective on life. She was a friend to many, and her people meant the world to her. If you were fortunate enough to be a part of her circle, you knew you had a best friend for life. She will be greatly missed by all.

Julie is survived by her son, Josh Schoeling; her mother, Karen Matan (Novak) and her partner, Bill Honig; her fiance, Ed Kovach; her sisters, Amy (Lovell) Hibbard and Maryann (Tony) Persico; her niece, Jade Provance; her nephew, Izak Provance; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Bill; her maternal grandparents, and her paternal grandparents.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to help juvenile diabetes research through Breakthrough T1D at www.breakthrought1d.org or to the family.
