Julia A. Katrein

Julia A. Panko-Katrein, 78, of Naplate passed away Friday, December 27, 2019 at her home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 am, Tuesday, December 31 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, with Rev. Gary Caster officiating. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 am, Tuesday, prior to services, at Ottawa Funeral Home. She will be buried in St. Columba Cemetery.

Julia was born January 3, 1941 in Ottawa to Anton "Tony" and Mary (Zuk) Panko. She attended George P. Hills Grade School and graduated from Marquette High School, class of 1959. She was employed at the Fashion Shoe Store.

Julia married Robert "Pete" Katrein on December 4, 1965 at St. Mary's Church in Naplate; he passed away October 30, 2009. She was a member of St. Mary's Altar and Rosary Society and served as President-Vice President and was coordinator of parish events. She loved to work in her flower garden, reading mystery books, doing jigsaw puzzles, cooking, and baking. She was a die hard Chicago Cubs fan. Julia was a very loving, giving, and caring person. She was a lady to know.

She is survived by her son, Michael Katrein of Ottawa; three grandchildren, Cory, Brandon, and Brittney; two great-grandchildren, Isabella and Jenson; her brothers-in-law, Thomas (Vicki) Katrein of Ottawa and Jack Elias of Ottawa; her sisters-in-law, Dorothy Guerrero of Ottawa and Florence Katrein of Valrico, Florida; many nieces and nephews, her special niece, Gail Thompson; and her caretakers, Sam and Rachel, that were with her until the end.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Anthony; her sister, Marge Grammer; and her brothers-in-law, Tom Guerrero and William Katrein; and sister-in-law, Beverly Elias.
