Judy Whitney passed away peacefully on October 16, 2024 at OSF Saint Elizabeth Medical Center. A private memorial will be scheduled at a later date. Cremation rites have been entrusted to Ottawa Funeral Home.
Judy was born on May 4, 1947 in Joliet, IL to Glen and Jane (Finkle) Whitney. She graduated from High School in Logan’s Point, Indiana in 1965. Judy was a long-time resident of Streator, IL residing at Knox Estates and Kent Street. Judy was an employee at the Workshop for Streator Unlimited until her retirement. Judy took great pride in her assistance of the petitioning for the rights of developmentally delayed adults.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother-in-law Ken Cantrell, brother Jimmy Whitney and great nephew Matthew Constantine. She is survived by her sisters, Joanne Cantrell and Jan (Pete) Beckman; nephews, David (Janice) Blomeyer and Jason (Sarah) Constantine; nieces, Jennifer Constantine and Christina Constantine; great nephews, Tyler Blomeyer, Benjamin Constantine and Henry Constantine; great nieces, Erynn Blomeyer and Kathrine Bigham; great great niece, Sarena Blomeyer; and her extended family at Streator Unlimited and the residents and staff at Knox Estates and Kent Street.
Judy was a loving sister and beloved aunt. She was warm and welcoming and never met a stranger. She had a charming sense of humor and a quick wit. She was the family historian, remembering birthdays, anniversaries and the timeline of significant family events. She enjoyed caffeine-free soda, word games, playing cards, working on puzzles, creating various crafts with yarn, ice cream, popcorn, watching the Cubs and the Bears play and being around her family and friends.
She will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that any memorials be directed to Streator Unlimited Kent Street Home.
