Joseph Gretencord

Joseph H. Gretencord Jr., a local farmer and life-long resident of Ottawa, IL, passed away on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at the age of 72.

Joseph is survived by his wife Sherry (Pinnell) Gretencord; his daughter Tammy; his four grandchildren Corey, Brana, Tristin and Contessa; and his furry partner in crime Sammy.

Joseph was born on July 28, 1950, in Ottawa, IL, to Joseph H. Gretencord Sr. and Luella (Grandadam) Gretencord. Joe was a devoted farmer and a true cowboy at heart. He enjoyed horseback riding, four wheeling, snowmobiling, camping and sharing stories about the good ol’ days. He was also a member of the Lasalle County Farm Bureau and Moose International. For most of his adult life, Joe could be found enjoying a cup of coffee, or two, at the “Oasis” every morning with his pals, a tradition that began with his father Joe Sr. If he wasn’t in the field planting or harvesting, he was in the shop working or taking Sammy for a long ride in the Gator.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents and older sister Virjean “Jeannie" (Gretencord) Applebee. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.
