Jon "Terry" Pugh, 62, of Redmond, Washington, passed away at his home on July 30, 2009. Cremation arrangements were entrusted to Flintoft's Issaquah Funeral Home & Crematory in Redmond, Washington. A memorial service will be held Friday, August 14, 2009, 11:00 a.m. at St. Columba Church in Ottawa with the Rev. David Kipfer officiating. Burial will be at Ottawa Avenue Cemetery. Local arrangement by the Ottawa Funeral Home. Jon "Terry" was born July 28, 1947 in Ottawa, Illinois, the son of John and Bernice (Bonges) Pugh. He was raised in Ottawa where he attended Marquette High School. After graduation he attended Illinois Valley Community College and then the University of Wisconsin Stout. He married Shirley LeAnne Burkum on September 13, 1974, in Rockford. Jon was a commercial and residential carpenter by trade. Jon's "Terry" interests included being a member of St. Jude's Parish in Redmond, WA and the Elks Club No. 1843. He enjoyed scuba diving and was a diving instructor for the YMCA. He was also a coach for the Boys & Girls Club as well as the Redmond Parks Department. Survivors include his loving wife, Shirley, three sons, Brian D. Pugh and Brandon M. Pugh, both of Kirkland, WA, Brock A. Pugh, of Redmond, WA; one daughter, Brenda L. Pugh of Redmond, WA. He also leaves behind two siblings, Darlene (Pugh) Baranek of Akron, Ohio and Danny Pugh of Mishawaka, Indiana. Jon was preceded in death by his parents. Jon was a very loving and protective husband and father who had a selfless personality with a great sense of humor (with a twinkle in his eye). He loved hearing about people's lives and was always ready to give advice. Jon was a passionate coach that believed sports taught life skills and to always do your best and how to work as part of a team. He will be remembered for being extremely honest and having a very strong work ethic; never being satisfied with "good enough". Memorials may be directed to Post-Polio Health International.
