Johnnie "Pooch" Poyner

October 30, 1946 — June 18, 2015

Johnnie "Pooch" Poyner, 68, of Seneca passed away Thursday, June 18, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Memorial service will be 4:00 Sunday, June 21, 2015 at Osborne-Nelson Funeral Home with Rev. Duane Kaufman officiating. His visitation will be 2:00 - 4:00 two hours prior to services on Sunday at Osborne-Nelson Funeral Home. Pooch was born October 30, 1946 in Joliet, Illinois to Oval H. and Parelee F (Arnold) Poyner. He grew up and attended school in Mazon. He married Donna Baker in 1972 and together they raised two children. He owned Pooches Standard Station in Seneca for many years. He also worked for Pfeifer trucking in Mazon and also had a wrecker service. During the winter months Pooch and Donna spent time in Arizona where he enjoyed hiking, playing music, and enjoying life. He enjoyed traveling in his motor home with his wife. He loved woodworking and dancing. He was an avid Cubs and Bears fan. He was the most giving and thoughtful person; he put everyone else's needs before his own. He was a very loving husband and father. He is survived by his loving wife, Donna; two children, Sean (Josephine) Poyner of Seneca and Shannon (Tim) Stiles of Seneca; five grandchildren, Taylor (Jess Miller) Poyner of Seneca, Alyson Poyner of Seneca, Chad Moyer of Streator, Malorie Poyner of Seneca, and Callen Poyner of Seneca; four siblings, Oval (Norma) Poyner of London, KY, Everet (Ruth) Poyner of Pittsfield, IL, Ronnie (Trudy) Poyner of Mazon, and Lonnie Poyner of Morris; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Donald and Eddie Poyner; and one sister, Dawn Bullion. Memorials may be directed to his family. The family would like to say a special thank you to Amber Robertson and Mehan Chon his nurses, Terry Bentz in Marseilles, Pfeifer Trucking, R & P Carriages in Seneca, Rev. Duane Kaufman, and Rev. Bill Clark.
