John Saleda

OTTAWA -- John W. "Jack" Saleda Sr., 79, of Ottawa, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, at his home. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Columba Church with the Rev. David Kipfer officiating. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at Ottawa Funeral Home with prayers at 3 p.m. Mr. Saleda was born Nov. 7, 1928, in Ottawa, to Clement and Julia (Browne) Saleda. He married Paula J. Rodriguez on Dec. 7, 1957. He worked at Libbey-Owens-Ford for more than 40 years and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne division from 1945 to 1948. He is survived by six daughters, Margarita Saleda of Chicago, Janet (Jim) Ridings of Herscher, Judith (Dana) Ferracuti of Frankfort, Jody Saleda of Broadview, Jill (Bill) Saleda-Layton of Montgomery and Dana Haywood of Ottawa; a son, Jeffery (Julie) Saleda of Ottawa; 10 grandchildren, Ron Brigel Jr., Stephanie and Laura Ridings, Joselyn, Jordan and Jenilyn Saleda and Kara, Nicholas, Kristen and Matthew Ferracuti; a sister, Florence (Eugene) Patton; and two brothers, Francis (Theresa) and Gene (Aria) Saleda. He was preceded in death by his wife; a son, John William Jr.; two brothers, George and Robert; and a sister, Mary Jean Saleda. Pallbearers will be Jim Ridings, Dana Ferracuti, Ron Brigel Jr., Jordan Saleda and Leo and Larry Johnson. Memorials may be directed to St. Columba Church.
