John B. Rose, 90, of Grand Ridge passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at the LaSalle County Veterans' Home.
Funeral services will be held at 4 pm, Sunday, January 22 at Ottawa Funeral Home, with Rev. David Kipfer officiating. Visitation will be from 2 -4 pm, prior to the services on Sunday, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Thompson Cemetery in Unionville, MO.
John was born June 24, 1926 in Putnam County, Missouri to Marshall and Beva (Hanel) Rose. He married June Leibold Hettel on June 3, 1989; she passed away January 27, 2013.
John served in the United States Army during WWII and Korea. He worked at Rock Island Railroad and ADM Grain as an inspector and retired from Union Carbide as an electrician. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion Post #33.
He is survived by three step-sons, Ed (Darlene) Hettel and John Hettel both of Grand Ridge, and Dean (Linda) Hettel of Algonquin; two step-daughters, Evelyn (James) Gromm of Ottawa and Bonita (David) Washkowiak of Grand Ridge; 16 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; one brother, Ronald (Gina) Rose of San Diego, CA; two nieces, and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; two sisters, Sue and Polly; one brother, Edward "Mac"; one great grandson, Jaxon; and one step-son, Dale Hettel.
