John Michaels

John Michaels, 98, of Naplate, Illinois, passed away Friday, April 11, 2014 at his home. Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 pm Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Ottawa Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Adrie officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, April 19, 2014 10:00 am to 12:00 pm prior to services at Ottawa Funeral Home. Private burial services will be held at a later date. John was born December 25, 1915 in Pennsylvania to Edward and Cornelia (Jablonsky) Michaels. John retired from LOF in 1980. He was a member of St. Mary's Church. John was one of the founding men of the Naplate Fire Department. He married Sophie Grygiel in January 1937. He is survived by two daughters, Caroline Newman of Naplate and Frances (Dale) Haar of Myrtle Beach, SC; three grandchildren, Julie Speirer of Naplate, John (Vanessa) Haar of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Kent (Sue) Haar of Myrtle Beach, SC; and one great-grandchild, Shelby Speirer of Naplate. He is preceded in death by his wife Sophie; one son in infancy; one great-grandchild in infancy, William John Speirer; eight siblings, Mary LeBeau, Anna Repka, Ed Michaels, Pauline Trevier, Josephine Gamons, Emily Price, Irene Vega, and Lillian Pumo.
