John Francis Mccormick

John Francis "Mac" McCormick, 88, of Ottawa, Illinois, died Thursday, November 1, 2012 at OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 6, 2012 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, with Fr. Jules Adator officiating. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, November 5 at Ottawa Funeral Home. Prayer service will be at 4:00 p.m., with the Knights of Columbus in attendance. Francis was born April 27, 1924, in Ottawa, Illinois, to Raymond and Sylvia Alma (Blumenthal) McCormick. He married Audrey Jones on March 2, 1946. She preceded him in death on February 2, 1974. He then married Jane (Krazel) Schwerdtfeger on August 16, 1975 at Christ Episcopal Church in Ottawa. He farmed his whole life in Dayton Township. He was a Pioneer Seed Salesman. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church, the Ottawa Moose Lodge, and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed finding and restoring antiques and going to auctions. He is survived by his wife, Jane; two sons, William "Bill" McCormick of South Bend, IN and John (Mary Ann) McCormick of Spring Valley; one daughter, Jean (Jack) Farrell of Ottawa; two step-children, Gary (Diane) Schwerdtfeger and Linda (Mike) Mussallem, both of CA; eleven grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mary Lou Baker, Barbara (Melvin) Hallett, and Shirley (Jack) Armstrong, all of Ottawa, and Patricia (Fred) Foster of MO; three brothers, Dale (Carol) of Ottawa, Donald (Betty) of KY, and Gerald (Cecilia) of Peru. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Audrey; one sister, Marjorie "Peggy" Dille; one brother, Harold McCormick; a step-son, Bob Schwerdtfeger; and son-in-law, Dave Cunico. Pallbearers will be Dave, John and Douglas McCormick, Gary Schwerdtfeger, Mark Von Drehle and Charles Lee. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Farrell and Mike Mussallem. Memorials may be directed to Friendship Village or St. Francis of Assisi Church.
