John Jay Dougherty

John J. Dougherty, 73, of Ottawa, died May 19, 2009, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00 am Saturday, May 23, 2009 at St. Columba Church with the Rev. David Kipfer officiating. Visitation will be from 9-10:30 am Saturday at Ottawa Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery. John was born November 6, 1935, in Chicago, IL to Edward and Alice (Munger) Dougherty. He was a member of St. Columba Church, Knights of Columbus, the American Legion Post #33 and a past member of Local #597, formerly known as Local #81. He is survived by two sons, John F. and Edward (Leslie) both of Ottawa; one daughter, Kathleen (Grant) Jenkins of Ottawa; seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild; and two sisters, Marrine Youngman of Florida, and Arlis Serby of Ottawa. He is preceded in death by a son Joseph in infancy and his parents. Pallbearers will be Robert "Slave" McGrath, Alex Jenkins, Jim Graffis, Jason Dougherty, Glen and Steve Serby. Honorary Pallbearer will be Tom Wright. Memorials may be directed to St. Columba Masses.
