John A. (Jack/Digs/Sleepy) Farrell, 79, of Ottawa, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at St. Patrick's Church in Ottawa with Rev. Joseph Donton officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 1, 2013, at Ottawa Funeral Home. Burial will be in Ottawa Avenue Cemetery. Jack was born December 10, 1933, in Ottawa, Illinois, to Dennis and Katherine (Hellman) Farrell. He married Jean (McCormick) Cunico on September 16, 1988, who survives. Jack retired from Burns International Security at LaSalle Station and also from the Rock Island Railroad. He was an avid golfer and was past president of the Ottawa Bowling Association. He loved his sports. He is survived by his wife, Jean; two sons, John Thomas and Andrew John Farrell, both of Florida; three step children, Laura (Charles Lee) Cunico, Lisa (Mark) VonDrehle, and Christopher K. Cunico; eight grandchildren; one nephew, Jim Claggett; and one special niece, Diane (Keith) Johnson. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Rita Brookman; and one brother, Armond Farrell. Pallbearers will be Mark VonDrehle, Charles Lee, Brandan Akers, Bryce Hopkins, Stanley Konwinski, and John McCormick. Memorials may be directed to the family.
