John H. Dixon

John H. Dixon, 83, of Ottawa passed away Thursday, December 9, 2021 at LaSalle County Nursing Home.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Cremation rites have been entrusted to the Ottawa Funeral Home.

John was born July 28, 1938, in Joliet to John W. and Dolores (Holl) Dixon. He married his first wife, Sally (Carnahan); she tragically passed away in 1962. He met Barbara Jean (Haley) and they were married in 1962; together they had four children. He then married Linda (Johnson) on September 30, 1985; they were married for 32 years before she passed away on March 25, 2017.

John graduated from Plainfield High School in 1956, then served in the United States Army for two years. He was a mechanic his whole life and had many jobs. Finally John would retire from Illinois Bell/Ameritech in 1996. After retirement, John helped care for his grandchildren and became the neighborhood "Fixer of All Things." John enjoyed watching the Chicago Bears, cooking, and flying model airplanes. He was an avid fisherman and loved taking fishing trips to Minnesota every summer.

He is survived by three children, Theresa (Marvin) Huggins, John (Karla) Dixon, and Michele (Howard) Pizur; four step-children, John (Margaret Sly) Logsdon, Allen (Marilyn Tucker) Logsdon, Susan (Dennis) Hancock, and Daniel (Carol Sylvester) Logsdon; his grandchildren, Matthew and BreAnne Sisson, Robert (Deanna) Roman, Haley Dixon, Kortney and Nicole Pizur, Travis Logsdon, Meriah Sly, Raymond and Jessica McCormick, and Sabrina Logsdon; great-grandchildren, Julianna, Sophia, Brentley, Evan, Abigail, Brady, Kinley, Elijah, and Conor; his nephew, Mark (Lisa) Dixon; and his niece, Lori (Joseph) Amato.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Sally; his third wife, Linda; his daughter and son-in-law, Brenda (Brian) Sisson; his grandson, Nolan Roman; and his brother, Dean Dixon.
