John W. Daw (Jack), 87, of Marseilles passed away August 13, 2013, at his home. Funeral Service for Jack will be at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 15, 2013, at Ottawa Funeral Home with Rev. Brian Hefner from the First Church of God in Marseilles officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. prior to services Thursday, August 15, at Ottawa Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday, August 16, 2013, at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood with military services. Jack was born May 20, 1926, in Chicago, Illinois, to Luke and Catherine (Neuby) Daw. He was in the United States Army in the 11th Airborne Division from 1944 to 1946. He served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater during WWII. He was awarded the victory medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with two bronze battle stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one bronze battle star, good conduct medal, Army of Occupation medal, and Japan Meritorious Unit award. He married Ruth Pollack September 4, 1948, at St. Rita's Church in Chicago. He worked as a self employed real estate broker. He was a member of the VFW. He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth; two daughters, Ruth (Jesse) Rodriguez of Stickney and Kathy (Rick) Vesper of Marseilles; three sons, Jack (Barb) Daw of Marseilles, David Daw of Mendota, and Michael (Patty) Daw of Lockport; nine grandchildren, Jeanne and Kathy Harley, Lucy Vesper, Reannon Juergensen, Sarah Brewer, Brian Daw, Amy Stacy, Meghan and Andrew Daw; and three great-grandchildren, Nick, Jacob, and Irene. He is preceded in death by his parents; one grand-daughter, Melissa Juergensen; three brothers, Bob, Jim, and Pat Daw; and one sister, Peggy Eggert. Memorials may be directed to Illinois Valley Animal Rescue.
