Joel E. Noel, 89, of Seneca passed away Saturday, August 8, 2015 at Morris Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Memorial Service for Joel will be 1:00 Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at First United Methodist Church in Seneca. A visitation will be one hour prior to services at 12:00 noon at First United Methodist Church in Seneca with Rev. Kihwan Choi and Rev. Duane Kaufman officiating. He will be buried in Riverview Cemetery with Military Honors. Osborne-Nelson Funeral Home has been entrusted with his services. Joel was born March 23, 1926 in Campbellsville, Kentucky to Elby and Minnie (Farmer) Noel. He married Betty Daily on June 19, 1948 at First Presbyterian Church in Ottawa. He retired from Pittsburg-DeMoines Steel in Marseilles after 15 years of service where he built steel beams for bridges. Joel proudly served in the United States Army during WWII where he belonged to the Big Red 1 Infantry. He was a guard for the entire Nuremberg War trial. During his time served in the Army Joel received many awards and metals including a Bronze Star, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Battle Stars, Victory Metal, Good Conduct Medal, and the Army of Occupation Medal (Germany). He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Seneca, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 86, was the Sr. Vice Commander of DAV Chapter 86, and the VFW. Joel was a real down to earth guy. While he loved many things in life such as gardening and sitting outside watching the animals he definitely loved spending time with his family. His children and wife meant the world to him. He was very proud to live in Seneca. Anytime the community needed help he could always be counted on. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty; his daughter, Bettina "Tina" Rundle of Ottawa; his son, Edward (Marlene) Noel of Tomah, WI; three, grandchildren, Brent Blue, Brenda (Tom) Sharp of Ottawa, Josh (Meghan) Noel of Muncie, IN; seven great-grandchildren, Kirsty, Kyle, Kelsi, Isabel, Clinton, Austin, and David; two great-great-grandchildren, Madalyn and Mila; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and four sisters. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church or Disabled Veterans.
