Joan Klag

Joan Marie Klag, 94, of Ottawa, passed away Saturday, June 7, 2025 at LaSalle County Nursing Home after a lifelong affliction with Multiple Sclerosis.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 11, from 9:00am until 10:00am at Ottawa Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, at 10:30am at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Columba Cemetery.

Joan was born on April 9, 1931 in Ottawa, IL to Benjamin and Elaine (Parsons) DeBrusselles. She married George "Jack" Klag on July 27, 1949 in Cedar Point, IL. He preceded her in death on September 10, 2006.

Joan was a strong believer in two things, her family and Jesus Christ. Her family was her everything; she said "without my boys, I wouldn't have anything." She loved and adored her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She also had a strong faith in the lord. She was a lifelong member of St. Francis of Assisi Church. She was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed watching the Bears, Bulls, and Cubs. Though football was her favorite, she enjoyed all sports. Though she faced many adversities throughout her life with MS, she never let it get to her. She was never focused on her life, but always about everyone elses. Even up into her 80's, she continued to help others leading an Al-Anon group where she met many lifelong friends.

She is survived by her son, Mike (Molly) Klag; her grandchildren, Jeremiah J. (Lacey) Klag, Stephanie (Devon) Larsen, Melissa Conforti, Heather (Will) Shane, Jeff (Alison) Klag and Katie (Austin) Banks; and her great grandchildren, Jeremiah S., Charlea, and John Klag, Hannah and Hailey Larsen, Dominic and Luca Conforti, Brock and Tucker Shane, Lex and Gus Klag, and Ava and Amber Banks.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Elaine; her husband, Jack; her son, Stephen Klag; and her sister, Barb Ong.

Memorials in Joan's honor may be directed to the Easter Seals Central Illinois or National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
