Janet A. Harmon, 77, of Ottawa, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 6 at Ottawa Funeral Home & Crematory, with prayers at 3:45 p.m. Memorial Mass will be held at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2016 at St. Patrick's Church in Ottawa, with Father Tony Fevlo officiating. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery immediately following the Memorial Mass.
Janet was born September 16, 1938 in Ottawa to Ernie and Jennie (Szafran) Knottek. She married Leo F. Harmon on July 25, 1959 at St. Francis Church in Ottawa.
Janet was a dedicated, passionate nurse for Ryburn Memorial/Community Hospital of Ottawa, where she retired in 2004 after 33 years of service. She was a member of St. Patrick's Church and Catholic Daughters of America. In her younger years, Janet enjoyed swimming at Blackhawk Beach and was an avid bowler. She was quite fond of playing cards and spending time with friends and family on trail rides, where her laughter could always be heard. One of her greatest joys was involvement in her grandchildren’s lives. Janet brought happiness and laughter to all those around her and will truly be missed.
She is survived by her husband, Leo; her daughter, MaryJo (Mike) Vetter; three grandchildren, Danielle, Nicole, and Andrew "AJ" Vetter; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Jack and Bob Knottek; and one sister, Marilynn Knottek.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Patrick's Church in the form of masses, Marquette Academy, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
