Janet L. Billings, 45, of Ottawa, Illinois passed away Sunday, June 5, 2016 at her home after a 13 year battle with cancer, where she was surrounded by her family.
Funeral Ceremony will be held at 3:00 pm Friday, June 10, 2016 at Ottawa Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin Donoho officiating. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 Thursday, June 9, 2016 and 1:00 to 3:00, two hours prior to services, on Friday at Ottawa Funeral Home. In honoring Janet's love for the ocean she will be buried at sea off the coast of Myrtle Beach October 8, 2016.
Janet was born February 10, 1971 in Sandwich, Illinois to Luther and Dora (Mills) Messer. She married David Billings Jr. August 26, 1989 in Harding, Illinois. She graduated from IVCC in 1994 with an Associates Degree in electronics, where she also later taught electronics.
Janet started the LaSalle County LEO Club which provides teenagers opportunity to develop skills to help their local Community; and has been an advisor for the past seven years. In her free time she enjoyed going fishing, working in her garden, and taking many vacations with her husband to the ocean. She had a strong passion for stock car racing which allowed her to travel the ASA circuit, she worked as a crew member being a "spotter" for Mike Miller, and she was even the mascot for Kevin Cynwinski. Over the years her passion for racing allowed her to develop young rookie drivers into the high profile drivers we know about today. She was a member of Cross Bridge Community Church of the Nazareen, Petal Pals Breast Cancer support group, Ottawa Moose Lodge, Ottawa Lions Club and was a past president, LaSalle County LEO Club, and Camp Tuckabatchee.
She is survived by her loving husband, David ; her parents; Luther and Dora Messer; her four legged companion, Boomer; one sister, Margaret (Jim) Ve Zain; mother-in-law, Sandy Marlatt; and father-in-law, David Billings Sr.(Marcia who passed away 17 hours later) and several aunts; uncles; nieces; nephews; cousins.
She is preceded in death by her favorite father-in-law, Donald Marlatt Sr.; and all of her grandparents.
Honorary pallbearers will be Kelly Bires, Stephen Light, and Travis Dassow.
