James O'Brien

James "Jim" O'Brien, 60, of Ottawa, passed away Saturday, February 11, 2023.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday, February 16, at Ottawa Funeral Home, with Fr. Gary Caster officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm prior to the service Thursday at Ottawa Funeral Home. Burial will follow in St. Columba Cemetery.

James was born August 31, 1962, in Ottawa, IL, to Francis and Rosemary (Schmidt) O'Brien.

Jim was a 1980 graduate of Ottawa High School. He went on to earn his associates in nursing from IVCC and went to work for Loyola. He served the patients of Loyola for over 25 years. In his free time, he enjoyed reading and traveling. On his vacations, he loved to snorkel and scuba dive. He loved to spend as much time as he could with his nieces and nephews.

He is survived by his siblings, Nancy (Steve) Peterson, Timothy (Michele) O'Brien, Daniel O'Brien, and Karen (Kevin) McCormick; his eleven nieces and nephews; and his eight great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers will be his nephews, Jeremy Peterson, Nick Peterson, Mike O'Brien, Casey O'Brien, Brenden McCormick, Cory O'Brien, and Curtis O'Brien.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to his family for memorials in his honor.
