James J. Monterastelli

August 24, 1951 — January 28, 2018

James J. Monterastelli, 66, of Peru, Illinois passed away Sunday, January 28, 2018 at his home.

Memorial Services will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, February 2, 2018 with Pastor Tricia Jackson officiating. Visitation will be 11:00am to 2:00pm on Friday at Ottawa Funeral Home & Crematory.

James (Jim) was born August 26, 1951 in Glendale, California to Guerino and Marie (Bernardini) Monterastelli.

Jim was CEO and Director of Horizon House for 38 years, retiring in 2017. His contribution to Horizon House and the benefits to the hundreds of lives of people with disabilities that he touched will never be forgotten. His dedication to them was not just focused on Horizon House. He served as a long time Board Member and past Board President of IARF (Illinois Association of Rehabilitation Facilities) and a founding Board Member of the Institute on Public Policy for People with Developmental Disabilities. Jim was a member of Peru Sunrise Rotary. He was instrumental in bringing public transportation to LaSalle County. For many years he was also a volunteer of the United Way of Illinois Valley.

He is survived by his son, Josh (Marianne) Monterastelli of Utica; a daughter, Jessie (Mike) Hunter of Oglesby; five grandchildren, Hunter, Kaden, Mia, Isriel Monterastelli and Ella Hunter; his brother, Mark (Linda) Monterastelli of Hoffman Estates; and his nephews, Daniel and Michael Monterastelli.

He is preceded in death by his parents.
